Dreaming – My current buckets

Back in 2009, I read a book called The Key to Living the Law of Attraction. In the book it talked about goals. Specifically suggesting to make a list of 101 goals. The book gave some examples of people who had used bucket lists, and over the course of their life successfully ticked off the majority of items. I decided I would like to try and find 101 things and started a list. Now it’s not the easiest compilation to do, but once there, it can be surprising how quickly things begin to get checked off.

I’ve got a list of 26 completed buckets. I have to admit cheating on sky diving. When I made the goal I was 23, and a lot more fearless. I satisfied myself with indoor sky diving and gave myself a tick! But if I do ever become brave enough to give the real deal a go, I’ll give myself an extra tick!

I’ve just had a look through my list. Currently I’m actively working on about six items…

  1. Take my kids around the world (I hope to achieve this by kicking off with goal #2)
  2. Live in a foreign country for a year. I’ve chosen Spain. Currently we are in mega saving mode. I’ve set the latest date as end of 2016. It may happen sooner but we have a few things in motion that could bring the date sooner (yay).
  3. Learn Spanish. Obviously this item factors in with the above two goals. I started learning Spanish in November 2014. It’s taking me a while, but I’m getting the hang of it. And I’m really enjoying it. So far I can understand more than I can speak, but I’m looking forward to using it! It will come in handy in Spain and South America!
  4. Write a book. Ok, I’ve been working on this for a really long time (since 2010). It’s a mixture of pain and pleasure… But in all honesty, fear holds me back, plus I don’t yet feel I’ve got the conclusion right. I’ve actually got enough for a few books. But I’m still working on it, and I won’t stop until it’s done.
  5. Laser surgery on my eyes. This one has become a bit more vital over the past year or so. I’ve been wearing contacts for 18 years, and my eyes have worn out… This will be done by end of the year.
  6. Read one book per month. My permanent work in progress. For the past two years I’ve been successful. In amongst all that I do, sometimes I find it a little bit difficult. I’m a reader that picks up a book and can read for hours on end. It’s a bit tricky for me to do that sometimes!

These are my current shorter term goals. There are a few others in in my list that perhaps might get ticked off by chance before these, but that will be timing. Sometimes I find that the right moment just happens, and a few months later when I look at my list I realise I’ve ticked another off the list.

Benefits of the bucket list :

  • It starts the dreaming process
  • It’s a brilliant distraction if you are going through something rough, it provides a positive focus!
  • It gives your life a purpose, something meaningful for you to follow and work towards.
  • Everyone’s bucket list is different, so it helps you define what you love and where you want to go.

For me personally, travel is really important. Some people might be super content where they are. And that’s also really wonderful. But I do hope that most people try to put a travel goal in, even if it’s small like visiting another part of a home country for a week. Exploring is neat, and if you’ve never done it, it’s totally worth a try. You may discover yourself a new passion!
